McFarland Cascade, a wood products company, is seeking a qualified Structural Project Engineer for our Tacoma, WA location. The position plans, designs and analyzes structural engineering projects by performing the following:
 Works as part of a sales and engineering team; interacts with customers concerning their needs for custom utility structures.
 Reviews geotechnical information for projects provided by the customer to ensure conformance to engineering plans, specifications.
 Communicates proposed structure and related design considerations to customers.
 Communicates technical sales/commercial information with the engineering staff.
 Performs computations leading to a proposal to manufacture and sell the structure to the utility.
 Travels to customer locations and trade events to represent the company when requested.
 Prepares and/or directs the preparation of drawings, notes, and other support documentation related to the basic structure design, installation and related components.
 Uses engineering design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
 Communicates with suppliers of laminated poles and related steel components and hardware.
 Participates in communications as a member of the department related to vendor quotes, production issues, large project coordination, etc.
 Develops relationships, makes presentations, and promotes structure designs related to large projects.
 Participates in the development of new structural design concepts using solid wood, laminated wood, steel, composites and concrete.
 Provides support to the company's products concerning structural design issues.
Interacts primarily with customer engineering staff, vendors, company sales staff, and company logistics staff. This position will also interface with all other functional areas of the company.
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• 4 years of experience as a Utility Line Design Engineer
• Extensive experience in design of utility transmission and distribution structures
• PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole and AutoCad experience
• PE Certification
